His narrative about the 12th century troubadours-including Bernart de Ventadorn, a well-known troubadour and one of the great writers of the world-has religious and historical relevance. The manuscript also has a great impact on the professor, who has fallen in love one of his students and is struggling to maintain emotional poise. In the end the professor agrees with Jonas' conclusion: The growth of civilization depends on making connections, and the link between the troubadour vision of love and sacred sexuality is an awakening to ancient knowledge that has the potential to transform the consciousness of humanity.
